Interior Designers Highlight the Top Paint Colors for 2016
Benjamin Moore, Behr, Glidden and Sherwin-Williams have selected off-white paint hues for their “color of the year” for 2016. Some of these are colorless hues, while others have an off-white tone. Specific colors this upcoming year include:
- Benjamin Moore – Simply White (OC-117)
- Behr – Ivory Keys (T16-17)
- Glidden – Cappuccino White (45YY 74/073)
- Sherwin-Williams – Alabaster (SW7008)
Kitchens look clean and simple with all white interiors. Paired with dark black or gray countertops, these areas look clean, bright and simply radiant.
These soft hues are designed for use in generous size spaces, not simply as accent colors. They reflect natural light, giving homes a spacious feel that is large, yet modern. Opt for a semi-gloss paint for hard to clean areas, as this makes it easy to remove fingerprints, stains and food.
The Alabaster tone is very neutral, working well with both cool and warm accents. It is a pleasant alternative to stark, hospital white. It imparts contrasting warmth that looks sensational against nearly any color of picture frame or framed artwork. Interior designers may freely experiment with spaces, trying a variety of frames, including an oval gold frame, black oval frame, round wood frames or even antique round picture frames.
Neutral tones work well with any color and style of furniture, albeit it antique, modern, contemporary or boho-chic. This allows for maximum versatility when decorating a home’s interior.
Cappuccino White is a creamy tone that looks sensational with dark brown accents. It works best in homes that need a sunshine-filled pick me up.
To dress up all-white rooms, highlight architectural details, such as fixtures, charming furniture or accessories. Avoid adding too much color as it can be visually distracting and overwhelming, which counteracts the effects of a neutral-tone room.
Adding colorful accessories to a neutral room can be tricky. Opt for grays, neutral whites and browns. A bonus is that the room will not feel dated or look trendy.
Eclectic homes look sensational with white accents, as it makes colors pop. This includes highlighting pictures in white mat frames, trim and floorboards in neutral bright white and maximizing white accents.
